Every celebration deserves a showstopping cake, but choosing the perfect one can feel overwhelming. Should you go for a classic tiered cake or something more playful? Buttercream or fondant? Bold colors or soft pastels? With years of experience crafting custom cakes, I’ve put together some simple tips to help you find the perfect design for your event.
1. Match the Cake to the Occasion
A wedding cake should feel elegant and timeless, while a birthday cake can be fun and playful. If you're celebrating a milestone, consider incorporating personal details—like a favorite color, a meaningful symbol, or even an inside joke!
2. Consider the Guest List
How many people are you serving? A towering five-tier cake may be stunning, but it might not be necessary for a small gathering. I always recommend discussing portion sizes with your cake designer to ensure you have just the right amount.
3. Flavor Shouldn’t Be an Afterthought
A cake should be as delicious as it is beautiful! If you're torn between flavors, why not mix things up? Many of my clients choose different flavors for each tier, so guests can have options. A crowd favorite? Vanilla and passionfruit for a light, fresh taste!
4. Think About the Season
Seasons influence both design and ingredients. Lighter, fruitier flavors are perfect for summer, while rich chocolate or spice cakes feel cozy in winter. Even decorations—like fresh flowers or gold accents—can be inspired by the time of year.
5. Don’t Be Afraid to Get Creative!
Some of my favorite cakes have come from clients who let their personalities shine through. Whether it’s a cake shaped like a book for an avid reader or a watercolor-painted masterpiece for an artist, the best cakes tell a story.
No matter the occasion, your cake should feel special and unique to you. If you're looking for inspiration or need guidance, I’m always happy to help bring your dream cake to life!
